Mitch Zak is one of California’s leading strategists, with more than 25 years of public policy, political, crisis and organizational communications expertise. He has worked in government, business and nonprofit to develop proficiencies in health care, water, transportation, real estate, public safety, government reform and alternative energy. From landmark public safety reform to historic Medi-Cal and health care policy, Zak leads teams that are client-focused, high-performing and successful.
Zak has worked with several of California’s most notable leaders including former Hewlett-Packard Enterprise President and CEO Meg Whitman and former governors Arnold Schwarzenegger and Pete Wilson. He worked for Governor Wilson from 1991-1998 as a member of the governor’s personal staff and held senior positions at the Department of Fish & Game and the California Trade and Commerce Agency. Zak was a member of Governor Wilson’s political team during the successful 1994 re-election campaign and helped lead subsequent statewide ballot measures.
Strategic planning, message development, media relations and comprehensive communications programs are Zak’s specialties. He has managed Randle project teams for clients including the California Hospital Association, California Association of REALTORS®, Golden State Water Company, Golden 1 Credit Union and California Family Fitness as well as statewide public safety leaders including sheriffs, district attorneys, police chiefs, rank-and-file peace officers and crime victims.

Zak resides in Sacramento with his wife, Tami, their son, Deuce, and daughter, Molly. In his spare time, Zak loves to golf and is an avid fan of the Cleveland Browns. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in international relations from University of California, Davis, and a master’s degree in public administration from University of Southern California. He served on the Board of Directors for the Sacramento Press Club and was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Sacramento Public Relations Association.
